Subject: Recording questions

Hi all,
my questions are these. Firstly, when I record a first track, in this case, a guitar, everything goes fine, but then when I try to record a second track, say a vocal, because I need to hear the guitar, when I turn the microphone volume up to do the vocal I can't hear the guitar at full volume, as I'd like to be able to, what can I do to fix this? I'm using an M-Audio Fast track
Also, when I trim audio and then try to play the audio minus the bit I've trimmed nothing happens, is this because I'm pressing space, which is the yellow play button which plays the selection only, rather than pressing control f4 which would play all of the sound and so play the remainder of the audio meaning the audio minus the bit I've just trimmed?
Any help greatly appreciated.

You do know how to set your start and finish markers, right? They can be set with the left and right bracket keys, just to the right of the letter P. as far as one track not being as loud as another, try maximizing the volume of the guitar track before mixing, or reduce the volume of your vocal track.
